Located on Quinpool Road in central Halifax, Nova Scotia, Clay Café is a "paint-your-own pottery" studio designed for all age groups - a relaxed, café-like atmosphere for people to enjoy painting on pottery. The studio has over 300 kinds of pottery to paint…plates, bowls, mugs, teapots, vases, and lots of cool designs for kids!
Our studio offers a very bright and colourful environment for your creative experience, so you can spend quiet time alone, quality time with your family, or relaxing social time with friends.
It's not necessary to make reservations, and you don't have to have any previous experience - just come on down, and join us! Our cheerful staff will show you how it works, and we have lots of pattern books, stencils and stamps to help with the designing process.
Your finished masterpiece will have your own very personal touch, and will be ready for use - for you or someone you love!
PRICES
Our price range is $8-$65. Most pieces range from $10-$30 (for example, there are about 15 styles of mugs, all ranging from $16-$25). Kid’s pieces are mostly under $20. The price of your piece includes everything but the tax - your pottery, all the design materials, all the paints you wish to use, the glazing, and the firing. We invite you to stay as long as you wish! We have coffee, tea, juices and a few snacks, or you're welcome to bring in your own food.
FIRING
Clay Café has two large electronic kilns to fire your pottery. Our Low-Fire Earthenware is dipped in clear glaze when you finish painting, and then spends about 24 hours in the kiln. Our firing schedule varies from day to day, and it generally takes 2-3 days before your piece is ready for pickup. However we can usually always put a "rush" on your piece if you're in a hurry! When your pottery comes out of the kiln, it will be completely food safe, and you’ll be able to put it in the dishwasher, or use it in the microwave.
