OUR VISION IN WORKING WITH CHILDREN
At Clay Cafe, EVERYONE IS AN ARTIST ! We know that creativity is an inherent quality of every human being, not a talent reserved for the few. By promoting creative expression in our children, we can give them a precious opportunity to explore their inherent talent and intuitive nature. We use colour, design, and form to help them connect with their own feelings and express their relationship to the world around them, helping to build self-confidence. You will find this vision to be a fundamental approach in every one of our workshops.
POTTERY WORKSHOPS IN YOUR CLASSROOM
Every school year, our "VAN-GO" program brings high-quality clay workshops to your school, led by Mady Thiel-Kopstein, our Director of school programs, art camps and mobile pottery workshops.
You may also choose to bring your students to Clay Café for a pottery outing. School groups can use the party room for no charge, (including mornings, when the studio is closed).
PAINT!
Let us teach a workshop to your students on painting ceramics - using bright, non-toxic glazes. Pick from a large selection of pottery kids love to paint! We have a great catalogue of pottery pieces kids love to paint the most, which we can fax to you. Prices vary according to the pieces picked, and the range is generally $12.00 to $25.00. One session, 1 ½ - 2 hours.
Another popular idea is to decorate your halls and classrooms with hand-painted tiles. Again, prices depend on the value of the pieces selected by students. Our tiles are 4x4 ($9.50 each) and 6x6 ($12.50 each), which includes the teaching fee and transporting materials to your school. One or more sessions, depending on the amount of students painting and tiles needed, 1 1/2 -2 hours each session.
CLAY MAKE!
We'll introduce your students to various techniques of "hand-building" with clay. They'll be up to their elbows in creativity, and will tell you it was their favourite project all year! This workshop is excellent for making gifts for the family, for a complement to school projects or an area of study, or just for fun. We'll make a clay masterpiece one week and paint it the next! These popular workshops are perfect for Junior High Exploratories and Elementary Clusters. Within the Metro area, these workshops run $5.50 per child per hour. 2-5 sessions, 1 ½-2 hours each session.
TEACHER APPRECIATION!
It's the teacher's chance for a session on clay making and clay painting. Have a team-building workshop, a relaxing "right brain" experience, or let us instruct you on how to teach the kids about clay. We can design a workshop to meet your needs.
CLAY WORKSHOPS can be from 1 to 5 sessions. Come to Clay Cafe if you want a COOL outing, or let us come to you with all the tools and paints and we'll create right in your school! Your place or ours, we can design any kind of program you wish!
